The “SAVIGNY” is a typical French countryside fireplace, custom made in our workshop in the heart of Burgundy, a region renowned around the world for its wines as well as its varied high quality limestone. For the “SAVIGNY” we use Massangis limestone, a medium hard Burgundy stone with a fine grain and evenly displayed seashells.
Burgundy has a history of stone carving dating back to early Middle Age, with flamboyant castles, abbeys, monasteries and churches. Our stone carver is based near Cluny, a township famous for its abbey, once the largest church in the world after St Peter’s of Rome. The heir of several generations of stone carvers, on top of this unique inheritance he also studied at the Fine Art School of Paris. This explains why the “SAVIGNY’ comes in the exclusive “Cathedral” finish, exactly like these “vessels of the sky” used to be finished and rendered in Middle Age Europe.
As you would expect, the “SAVIGNY” is always made to order, allowing you to specify your measurements, the extend of the mantelpiece overhang, as well as a different finish (bushammered or honed) or a different stone (see our limestone section for alternative Burgundy stones).
Accordingly, a hearth stone, a firewood stowage or a hood can be added to “your SAVIGNY”. Feel free to provide us with your requirements and we will send a price estimate.
At The Good House, we specialize in custom made works, so feel free to submit your own fireplace design for a quote. Also browse our fireplace picture galleries for more ideas. Best of all, come and see the “SAVIGNY” in our Richmond showroom, open from 1:00 to 5:00pm or by appointment.

A grand fireplace, large in size but simple in design, the “SAVIGNY CHATEAU” offers all the features the name conveys. Available in our exclusive “Cathedral” finish or simply bushammered, and carved in Massangis Burgundy limestone, by our Master stone carver Frédéric Thomasset, whose grand-grandfather started the family business in 1867, the Savigny Chateau is custom made only. We can even have your family blazon carved on the mantelpiece!
The ample wood stowage under the hearth calls for long winter evenings around the fire. Imagine yourself in your favourite rocking chair, drifting away to the gentle crackling of the logs, after a long ride out on the range…
To fully complement it, we also supply traditional cast iron fire backs. Even if you don’t have the castle to accommodate such a large fireplace, The good House will work out, in collaboration with you or your interior designer, a fireplace to suit your needs. From varied shapes, stones and finishes, we will help you devise the fireplace that will add soul to your room, be it a lounge, a dining or a bed room

TGH regularly imports stone works from France in the form of stone fireplaces and mantelpieces, custom made out of French limestone, both hard and medium hard Burgundy limestone, or softer feature stone from the South of France.
But did you know that we also import custom made stone works like stairs, fireplaces, any type of fountains, basins, wells, garden and patio stone features such as statues, niches, benches and walls, tiles and slabs in finishes that will look fabulous not only in French provincial or Mediterranean, Tuscan designs, but also contemporary and modern Australian designs? Simply supply your ideas, sketches or designs and we will provide a price estimate.
Our suppliers are equipped with latest technology that makes these pieces of art more affordable to manufacture. But most importantly they pride themselves in invaluable experience in traditional stone carving dating back to 1867. The powerful combination of experience and technology works wonders when it comes to creating solid stone stairs with full stone strings.
Of course, being a sourcing service, TGH can also find reclaimed fireplaces or door surrounds to suit your wishes, but most of the time you’ll find out that going for new products with a weathered look provides the best results, as it will fit exactly your design, and installation and shipping costs remain under control. Feel free to contact TGH anytime for more details. We will assist you in any aspect of style and installation as well.
